Being Junior "Leg" Umpire At A Junior Match

We expect / hope that we can have all players being an umpire at some point.
We have found it raises their game; and awareness of the match / fielding positions.

Being a junior umpire can be seen as daunting. However, with a little preperation, it will be a great experience for them.
He / she will never be on their own and every coach has been an umpire and will be ready to help.

1. Preperation

Read up where are you going to stand
(Where is square leg ?)
Click here to know a little about fielding positions

2. On match day

You have brought extra clothes and a cap haven't you ?
At square leg; your primary duties are
- Stumpings - Have a view of the crease (stumbings on run outs, or after a bowl and the batter is outside the crease)
- No ball if over a certain height (A full toss) or WK being in front of the wicket to take the ball or ball bounces more than twice / rolls to batsman
- Consult with main umpire over decisions
- Managing the wicket / stumps if they fall off
- Enjoy the ambience !

NEVER THINK YOU CANNOT BE AN UMPIRE - YOU HAVE BEEN CHOSEN BECAUSE YOU CAN.

YOU WILL ENJOY IT ... HONEST !

Encourage - Be Positive - Listen to Others
